Description

Fashion and Aerospace have been partners since the first Space Age. Their historical achievements have paved the way for a robust textile industry that serves both our needs on Earth and our Space endeavors.

In addition, Space can be a hostile environment both physically and psychologically and fashion has a role to play in both. It brings forth the material science to protect humans from harmful radiation as well as flexibility to enable mobility to reduce fatigue due to extreme exertion. Also, the human connection to fashion can be used to maintain and reinforce positive psyche and sense of self in isolated and solitary environments.

This presentation will give an overview of fashion and space’s shared history, and some of the most exciting new and upcoming developments. Our keynote presenter is Lee Anderson, a member of NewSpace Chicago and founder of Starkweather – a one stop shop for outerwear research, concepting, and design with a focus on urban environments. Lee also runs FAAR – an organization for the advancement of space-scalable, commercial businesses that will drive the future of living, lifestyle and wellbeing in space.

This is part of a continuing series of space entrepreneurship discussion and networking forums presented by NewSpace Chicago and hosted at mHUB Chicago. This event is free and open to the public.
